After suffering a motorcycle accident on the Brooklyn Bridge, Douglas Winter headed West in his pick-up truck and camper.

Eventually, a calling for social justice led Winter to the US-Mexico border, where he established a non-profit organization to provide humanitarian aid to migrants waiting in Ciudad Juarez shelters for their opportunity to cross into the United States.

Winter, with a storied 30-year career as a court reporter and small business owner in New York City, began to look for his next hurrah. Never one to stop moving decided to lay down roots in Downtown El Paso.

When Douglas met his partner Rebecca Munoz, during the height of the pandemic, they bonded over a love of film and storytelling, and family recipes. Rebecca, a native El Pasoan, artist and arts and cultural administrator, suggested combining all of their interests into a place where they could share good food and films with the El Paso Community. Hence, Aaron & George’s Film Cafe was born.

Aaron & George’s Film Cafe is our love letter to each other and Downtown El Paso. We hope that you come by to try a cup of our housemade Cafe de Olla, and enjoy a film!

Who Are Aaron & George?

Douglas and Rebecca have built this business as a homage to their grandfathers, Aaron Schwartz and George Haims, both of whom had restaurants in El Paso, Texas, and New York City.

“Aaron and George’s” is inspired by El Paso's Fellini's Film Cafe on Cincinnati Avenue and arthouse theatres in New York like Spectacle in Williamsburg and Film Forum in SoHo.
